DIY: Monogrammed iPhone Case

Being home for the summer leaves me with quite a lot of time on my hands. Needless to say, I start finding things to do or picking out things I'm bored with. My victim this time was my Speck iPhone case:

I've run through about 4 of these cases, as well as a Tech Candy ones, and found problems with each. My friends say I "beat up" my things, but the truth of the matter is that I use my iPhone... a lot! It is literally always attached to my hand. My Speck cases tend break within 2 months, the rubber casing starts tearing or the bottom part where you charge the phone breaks. Tech Candy cases are my favorite, aesthetically. However, I found myself having to remove the case when I wanted to use flash photography. Some of my pictures even turned out green. Completely unacceptable for someone who documents life with her iPhone's camera.

I set off on a mission to find a reasonably priced monogram sticker, as well as a plain iPhone cover that I could alter. I wanted to keep the price of my project under $20 because of the rate at which I destroy iPhone cases. At first, I could only find monogram decals for $10.00. As I was about to give in, I stumbled upon Lime Tree Gifts on etsy. She lists a variety of colors and fonts for a mere $5.00 and only $0.85 for shipping. I was sold!

Next, I needed to find a case so I searched (for a while) on ebay. I came across a few, but settled on this one from an ebay store called Wydan for $3.89. They have a number of different colors. I was pretty torn between the turquoise and black, but at last chose the black one to match my white monogram decal.

When I finally received everything, I couldn't wait to get started on my extremely simple and small DIY project (hey, I've gotta start somewhere, right?). The decal came with specific instructions. I was glad I read them, too! Applying a decal requires some patience and delicateness (neither of which I possess). I carefully applied the decal and very gently peeled off the other side, as per the instructions.

Once I finished peeling it off, the end result was just as I expected! Cute, simple. and so inexpensive! I spent a whopping $9.74! Less than half of my budget!

I put it on my phone almost immediately. The case fit great, the buttons were accessible, and the flash photography worked fine! I especially love this case because it reminds me of my sorority sisters. I had no idea what a monogram was until they taught me- #miamigirlproblems, I know!

Let me know if you guys create your own monogrammed cases! I'd love to see what you design! Have a fabulous week!
